About Wendy Zwickl
Expertise
I can answer questions pertaining to infertility including how to administer the injections for IVF, common side effects one may experience, and what to expect during egg retrival. I can answer some questions on IUI and Clomid cycles. I have had unexplained infertility for 6 years and I have been through numerous Clomid cycles with and without IUI. I have been through a fresh IVF and a frozen ET. I have been through a full range of infertility testing at least once, and in many cases, numerous times. I have had to travel to do all this, and I have some helpful information for couples on how to accomplish treatment goals outside of your local area.

Experience
I have dealt with almost all aspects of infertility for 6 years. I have had IVF, FET, IUI, and Clomid cycles. I have been pregnant once and have had one miscarrieage. I have had almost all of the standard infertility workup tests, as has my husband. I have done several injectible cycles, with both European and American medications and supplies. When problems arose during treatment, I have performed exhaustive searches on the web only to come up empty-handed. I eventually found what I needed and felt I should pass along whatever I could.

Question
I won't take the time to go into everything my husband and I have been through the last two years trying to have a baby ... but I will start with saying that I have PCOS, I do not ovulate on a regular basis ( if EVER ) and my ovaries didn't even budge with the highest dose of clomid. I've been on every oral medication and monitored with ultrasounds & blood tests on a regular basis. On top of this, I also have high thyroid & high Triglyceride levels I am medicated daily for. My Dr. is the best - he's so positive about our chance of conceiving because I am young. I've been put on provera a dozen times and it's always started my cycle. However, this last time it didn't and 12 days after my last dose I went in for an ultrasound to find out why AF hadn't visited. My Dr. said I have a cyst. A small cyst and they're normal - but I've never had one before. That is what stopped me from having a period and so he gave me a progesterone shot in my buttox to induce the period since the provera didnt. That was Wednesday morning, and today is Saturday afternoon. Still no sign of AF. I can't seem to find anything on the internet to tell me if this is normal and when to expect a period. My Dr. said 3-4 days and I'm feeling kinda nervous cuz today is day 3 and nothing!!! Our objective in starting this period is to start our first round of injections ( Gonal F ) on day 3 of my cycle and hopefully succesfully conceive. I feel like I'm finally ready to take this next step and now my body is not even cooperating!!!
Any advice? Should I be worried?
Thanks!!!

Answer
Sarah,

My mother in law, who is a nurse, says 8-10 days. We are guessing at the dosage. I have seen some posts on TTC boards where women were told 5-7 days. Don't over-analyize this too much, as stress CAN cause you to NOT start. This has happened to me SEVERAL times, the most recent time at Christmas when I was to go home, and carried a myriad of 'sanitary' implements only to start almost 7 days late--on my way back home! :-) I only tell you this because stress REALLY CAN make a difference and I won't, (absolutely WON'T) tell you to RELAX!
I hope you see AF tomorrow...if you don't, I would call your doc on Monday morning, and ASK. Remember, YOU ARE PAYING HIM! It is his job to answer your questions to your satisfaction.
Good luck, and feel free to ask further questions.
Wendy
