Infertility/Fertility - Varicose Seal

Expert: Social Worker - 10/5/2004

Question
My boyfriend was diagnosed as having a Varicose seal in one of his testicles a couple years ago. I know this means he is mostly sterile, but should this affect his sex drive or penile function? Also can you give me any more information about it? We don't have health insurance and we sure can't afford a Urologist. Anything you can tell me would be great. Thank you!

Answer
Hello...
First of all, I greately apologize for the delay, there were technical errors.
Having a varicose seal ( which is a blockage which does not allow sperm or some sperm to pass through ) does not necessarily mean he is sterile,  it would depend on the severity etc....  There still might be sperm passing out that can impregnate you.   Surgery to correct this is very costly....if you are thinking about becoming pregnant you might want to have a semen analysis done whcih is not as expensive and this can then give you an idea of what is actually in the ejaculate.
Good luck to you.
