Question
hello my name is George im in the U.S. coast guard and i just got pcs orders to san diego ca.  my car is registered and insured in the state of new jersey through usaa.  my question is do i have to switch my insurance coverage to California or because i am in the military my coverage applies to where my car is registered?

Answer
Hi George, the answer to this lies with the legnth of time that you and your vehicle will be domiciled in California.  If it is a brief stint then you should not have to register and insure the vehicle there but if it is long stint then you will have to.  Your best bet would be to run this by your insurance company so that you do not run into any unforseen hassles when or if the need to present a claim arises.
