Subject: friend damaged my car, will insurance cover?

Question
My roommates and I have apron parking at our apartment, and just recently, one of my roommates backed my car out of our driveway and scraped the side of my car along the adjacent pillar. There is a considerably long white scratch, and possibly a couple slight dents. If I gave my roommate permission to drive my car, will my insurance cover the damage? And if so, will my insurance premium go up?

Answer
Hi Jessica-
Your insurance should cover the loss, if you purchased collision coverage, as you gave them permission to drive your vehicle.   They may inquire though about the exposure to your roommates driving your vehicle.  Your insurance rate could go up, as it would be considered a chargeable accident.  Hope this helps. :) Denise
