Subject: when does motorcycle insurance go in affect

Question
my son call his insurance company to let them know he had just purchased a motorcycle they told him the price and to call them back with the vin # he was involded in a accident before he did that now there claiming he had no coverage

Answer
Hi Jim-
It depends on the policy form that they are using.  Get the policy provisions, and look under "Your Insured Vehicle".  There it will address newly acquired vehicles, if they are using a version of the auto policy.  Your son may have grounds to have it covered, since the person didn't state he wasn't covered.  You may have to make a complaint, and document when he called.  If he called from a mobile phone, there would be a record on his end that he called.  Landline phone records could also be obtained.  If they still deny they took the call to add the bike, then you may have to make an insurance department complaint.  Hopefully your son noted who he spoke to, as that would help.  Good luck! :) Denise
