Question
Hello!

I have a question. I have been in the taxi accident not too long ago (July 22, 2009) and I had a whiplash injury. I was in the hospital, and I have some medical bills to pay as well as I missed a week of my work due to this accident. I was a passenger in the cab. The accident happen in San Francisco, CA. I am not sure how do I go around and claim the insurance from the cab company? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much,
Diana

Answer
Hi Diana, if you do not have enough information written down regarding the license plate, name of the taxi company, name of the driver etc. you should call the SFPD and find out how to procure a copy of the police report associated with this accident.  This should contain the information you would need to file a claim because it should also have a box for the code number of the insurance company and the California Ins. Dept. can give you the name of the insurance company that corresponds with it.  When you file your claim include a copy of all of your out of pocket expenses as well as a copy of the police report and a letter on your company letterhead which indicates your time lost from work.  You might even call the hospital you went to to see if they might have the information already and if you have your own auto insurance then you can contact them to see if they could help you out in tracking down the at-fault driver's insurance company.
