Insurance Law - receiving diagnostic test

Expert: Bennie 719 - 8/5/2009

Question
Since authorizations for certain tests can not be  obtained prior to 10 days of an accident, can a doctor send a patient(X-rays or mri's) to a diagnostic facility within 10 days of the date of accident and be paid?

Answer
Hi Chyrl,
I have never seen such a clause in the legal wording of any auto medical payment coverage,
but it is quiet common in a health policy, especially one through a HMO which also will
require that the diagnostic tests be done at one of the facilities of the HMO.

In order for coverage to apply, you must follow the terms spelled out in the legal
wording of your policy.

I hope this helps.
