AboutMr. Rene Christiaan Duvekot Expertise BRAZIL - Business - is what I know and what I do. I can answer questions on business habits, business research, how to locate prospective buyers, sellers, partners, and so on. If it relates to doing business in Brazil, the great likelyhood is that I can help.
Question I am planning to represent a Brazilian manufacturer of latex clothing. I will connect retailers in the US and Canada with the mfr. I'll be able to take orders at various trade shows and the merchandise will be shipped directly from the mfr. to the retail store. Most of these orders will be under $2,000. From what I've read, these orders would be informal entries, with minimal customs/taxes. Is this correct?
Thanks,

Answer Hello John:
Yes, I believe that you are correct ... the manufacturer in Brazil can probably ship those orders by FedEx or DHL, which requires an invoice and perhaps a packing list (check FedEx and DHL sites for details).
Make sure you have a good contract with the manufacturer, very clear on which event triggers them paying your commission: (a) when you get the customer's order, (b) when the order ships, (c) when the order is received by the buyer, or (d) when the buyer pays. make sure you agree on what expenses they will pay (and when), and what advances they will provide. It is very tough being a Mfr Rep if you have to support ($$$) the sales effort by yourself.
All the best,
