International Jobs - Job in London

Question
Dear Glenn,

I am an American 35 year old single male who has been self-employeed for 10 years, first as founder and owner of a matchmaking service (5 years) and then in the metaphysical field as an author (love related) and spiritual counselor.  I am interested in a career change and living and working in London, but from what I've learned on-line, work permits there are difficult to get unless it's for an upper level or management position that can't be filled with a current resident of the U.K.  My question to you is this: How difficult would it be for me to find company in London who would be interested in hiring me?  I have a BA in general business from UofA in Tucson, AZ, have experience as an entreprenuer, and am open to different possibilities that will allow me to support myself in London.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Dear Stephen Petullo ,
hello and thanks for your question.
Not an easy one, but in principal, you have already answered it:your need a work permit. That is indeed hard to get unless you have a firm that is making you a job offer for some position that cannot be filled locally. Generally, the job market in England is bleak and low paying, not at all easy to land something in a new field. It is advisable to broaden your search to places beyond the UK, i.e. also considering international organisations.

As an advisor I do offer international job searches. Based on your CV on specific preferences, I explore current opportunities and provide you with a tailored assesment.
This service I provide through LiveAdvice and charge $50.
Your assessment is produced within 3 working days; for any further work, details are discussed according to the results form the first assessment.
If this is of interest to you, you can easily sign up at LiveAdvice for free. Then simply contact me through the service and we can take it from there. The URL is at:
