Expertise
I have been online for five years now and I come in contact everyday with people online who have all kinds of stories about why they are online and the time spent here. I feel confident that i can guide someone with an addiction on the right path or help someone know if they are addicted or not.

Experience
I spend many hours a day online and spoken to people who have been addicted to the net. When i first discovered the internet, i know i became very addicted to it so i speak from personal experience about how it effected my friends and family.

Question
Hello,

I am 14 years old. Going 15 though.

I know I am an internet addict. I need to quit it. Because it is interferring with my daily activities and affecting my brain too much. My feelings too.

When I am on the computer, I would go to this Christian chat room. I've been going there for five months now. I guess I am probably addicted to that place. In school, during break times, I would log into that place.

Lately, I was banned by the administrator. Because I cussed. I cannot log in. It is really affecting me. I think about it all the time. It makes me low.

Please help me...

Jessica

Answer
hi jessica,

thanks for emailing me.

we all do silly things what we regret latter on. i would suggest you email the adminstrator of the chat room apologizing for what you did and ask them to give you a second chance.

about your addiction to the internet. this is common but you do need to balance your life out with both the net and the real world.

i would suggest you decide to spend a certain amount of time online and then go to other things, such as go out with your friends, watch tv, read. its not healthy to spend all your time doing just one thing.

if your really struggling with this, you need to talk to your parents or to a counsellor who can help you with this addiction. if you dont do something about it now, it will only get worse.

you have to take control of what is going on in your life.

good luck
