Question
Hello, I would like to know how to access the internet with my own laptop while on the road? Do I need to change anything like numbers I would need to dial? Or maybe changing something just while I'm on the road?

Thanks

Answer
Depends on your laptop and where you want to connect from. Almost all laptops made in the last 2 years have a built in Wi-Fi adapter. That means you can connect anywhere there is a Hotspot. Most hotels, lots of restaurants and other locations have hotspots that may be free or charge a small fee. The location can give you instructions on how to connect to the hotspot.

You could use dialup if you want. But that would mean subscribing to a service (like AOL) that has a large network of local numbers or an 800 number to connect to. Even then you would have to pay local phone charges and since dialup is slow, this could get expensive.

The other choice is generally called mobile broadband. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and others offer this service. You purchase a USB adapter that connect to your laptop. This then connects to the carrier's cell network to connect to the Internet. You pay a monthly fee for this service ranging from $40-$100 depending on carrier and plan. This is popular among road warriors who are frequently on the road or visiting customers.

Hope this helps
