About Ken Ivey
Expertise
If you are new to the Internet you may be anxious to give it the gas; or terrified to take your foot from the brake! Either way, with over 20 years on what is now called the information highway, I can steer you in the right direction. Are you ready? Let's hit the road!

Experience
I have over 20 years of practical experience with web-related issues, and some military computer training. I've worked for a computer manufacturer, and own a small technology company specializing in web-design, hosting, and internet media production. I am the webmaster of several sites, and e-newsletter editor for Rotary District 6760 which is comprised of 65 clubs throughout middle Tennessee.

Education/Credentials
I'd like to say a diploma from a revered educational facility hangs on my wall, and perhaps someday it will. In reality, everything I know has been self-taught, much of it done so in the hallowed halls of that venerable institution called "The School of Hard Knocks".

Question
Is there really such a thing?  I ask because I've posted a few videos of mine on a couple blogs, but it seems as if the tags I affixed to them do not seem to be working.  Whenever I actually input the tags per se into a search engine like Google or Yahoo or even Dogpile, the pages don't even turn up.  I actually have to type in a key word (not even one of the tags!) on the page and the name of the website before the page turns up on my searches, and even then it's only on page 2 or 3 of my search results.  Is it possible to have too many tags ?(I usually give about 5 or 6)  Or too few?

How can I make it so that I can better direct web users looking for a certain topic  to my web blogs?  I appreciate any help you can give.

Answer
Thanks for the question, I.D.  :)

Yes, Virginia - there is a Santa Clause... er... SEO.

One thing you'll need is patience - I tell my clients not to look for results in the first few months because when you're doing it the right way, it can take that long or longer.

I know, I know, you've seen the ads claiming #1 in Google overnight - they generally don't work and some tactics can get you banned permanently.

The best way to achieve good results is to have great content that includes your search terms.

A good explanation of how Google's Universal Search works is here:

Hint:  A properly formatted Blog Post, Press Release, or PodCast can get quick results.  It is beyond the scope of this service to explain the intricacies, but there is a lot of info on the web.  It just takes time and experience.

If you have a particular issue or project, you can email me at info@midtntechnology.com

Thanks!

Ken
