Internet for Beginners - wi fi signal

Question
We arae living in Ks and our internet is through Sunflower broadband.  They send the signal thru a tower to a receiver on the house.  This is a large home (5000 sq ft) w/ 3 levels.  I would like to use my laptop wirelessly in the lower level (part undeground and part walk out) and the signal is too weak. I use a linksys router for wifi.  Whay do you suggest for boosting the signal?  Also we tried Vonage and it isn't strong enough in the house and our t-mobile cell phones have no signal in lower level either......so until technology reaches here....what do you suggest for boosting all of these devices..if you know about phones too.  Thx  Delayne

Answer
First you don't say what version of 802.11 you are using. The new 802.11N equipment does give a wider range. You can also replace your antenna with high gain models. The next possibility is using a repeater. You could, of course always run a cable to the basement and either connect via cable or connect to another Access point in the basement.

Using Vonage, you should be hardwiring the Vonage interface box into your router. From there you can wire in your phone extensions or try the newer 6.0 wireless phones.

As for your T-Mobile phones, have you tried talking this over with them?

Hope this helps
