Internet for Beginners - compatibility of browsers

Expert: Angela Scott - 6/26/2009

Question
Can I keep Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox simultaneously installed on my machine. Do they interfere with each other. Are the internet files stored at the same place for both the browsers. Does the settings of one change the settings of other too. Please guide me.

Answer
Hi, thank you for your question, and sorry for the delay in replying, but I've only just received this request! :-(

It's perfectly ok to have both browsers installed on your computer...I always do. In fact, if you use one and have problems viewing a website, you can use the other to check whether or not it's viewable in that one.

They are totally seperate programs, and have different addons and mods that you can install for each, and their settings are stored in seperate places, too, so they won't interfere with each other, even when they are both open at the same time.

At one time, if you wanted extra toolbars installed in your browser, they were only made for Internet Explorer, now there are many for Firefox, too, as it becomes more and more popular.

As long as you keep both updated to the latest versions, there is none that is particulary safer than the other...they are both vunerable to certain hostile attacks, but taking basic precautions as you surf will help a lot.

I hope this has helped. :-)

Regards,
Angela
