Internet for Beginners - Installing shockwave in netscape 7.2

Expert: Corey Bryant - 2/28/2005

Question
Hello,
I recently changed my browser to Netscape 7.2, but i seem t be unable to install shockwave player as a plug in. if i download the player from the official site, it downloads, i install it and it says it was successful. Now it is successful in Interent explorer, but not in Netscape. When i go on a test site to see if its installed in netscape it says "click here to download plugin", and i end up back where i started at the downloads page.
And that just keeps happening and i'm going round and round in circles. Please help.

Thanks for your time,
Damian Jenkinson
P.s I'm running Windows XP

Answer
This is actually one of the reasons I do not use Netscape.  If you do not want to use IE for your reasons, you might check out Firefox.

I did find this: http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14859 albeit another version, but it might help to show how some browsers are just not compatible unfortunately for some reason or another.  But make sure you are trying to download Shockwave 7.0: http://www.circa.ufl.edu/cd-rom/version6e/windows/macromedia.htm - this might be one cause of the problems getting the plug-in to work
