Internet for Beginners - Port Scanning

Expert: Scottgem - 2/17/2005

Question
I'm using Sygate Personal Firewall and I'm constantly getting alerts saying my ports are being scanned. How do I stop the scanning and close these ports?

Answer
That's what the firewall does. It closes your ports. The alerts are telling you that Sygate has detected and stopped the scans. There is nothing you can do to stop the scans because they are coming from people trying to hijack your machine. That's why you use a firewall.

Sygate is doing its job.
