Internet for Beginners - Sound Problems

Expert: Scottgem - 4/19/2005

Question
When i play music using Winamp or WMP 10, when using my speakers, the sound is just fine, but when i use my headphones to listen to the music, its like its playing the music in the background but instead of the foreground. What i mean by background is the sounds that most people don't normally hear and by foreground i mean what you are suppose to be hearing.

Can you tell me how to fix it, what is causing it, or if you have any questions, i will try and give you us much info as you need.

By the way, when i hook the headphones up to my cord that allows me to hook my headphones and speakers up to the same jack, the headphones work just fine, its only when i have the headphones hooked up in the front of my modem, they don't work, so it isn't the headphones, its just the front part of my modem that isn't working. It worked just fine before i had to completely restore my computer.

Also i have SP2 from microsoft and i have their updates for the sound and graphics, including DirectX 9.0c.

Answer
"its only when i have the headphones hooked up in the front of my modem"

I was going to pass on this question because sound is not one of my strong suits. But you don't hook headphones to a modem. Modem are only for telephone communications. That could be why the problem.

If, however, you are referring to a front headphone jack on a tower case, then its probably there is a loose connection to that jack.
