AboutPat Dunlap Expertise My expertise is searching the Internet for answers to almost any
question or topic imaginable. I know how to ask the right question.
Just want to help others to try to find answers. The least I could
do is try. I enjoy the search.
Experience I have 25 years experience in looking for answers for repairs to
international adoptions to languages to, well, you name it.
My question is very basic and I have put it pointwise.
1] How are the various servers world over connected? I mean what is the medium of connection when the distances are huge. Like for eg: Connection between servers in London and those in Boston? Is it fibre optics or what? What role is a router playing?
2] I have an account with ISP. Now what is it that ISP is doing exactly? What is IP? Does an ISP have IP-address or does my PC have an IP-address? What is ISP server?
3] If I am in some country in Asia and I access, for eg: www.yahoo.com ...How is it exactly that my request is processes. I mean how is my information being directed physically till yahoo.com servers. How is the same request processed from a place in USA itself? (I presume yahoo.com is on some server in USA).
4] How and where (physically) are the terms like 'Broadband' , 'Dial-up' , FibreOptics' , 'Cable' playing the role. I mean, do they affect my connection with ISP? Or connection between ISP and other servers or between ISPs? Or between servers?...I mean this is vague but I am all confused with the structure of Internet and its Management.
Appreciatively,

~tutorial internet
or
~tutorial ip
Yes, that is a tilde symbol used in Google to bring in words like tutorial. Instead of ~tutorial, try ~basics and other keywords you are searching on. Also search on:
"What is" broadband ...and your other terms. Try this:
