Internet for Beginners - Trying to get rid of ~

Expert: Scottgem - 7/10/2004

Question
I have an XP, and after awhile of using the computer for like a month, i get this file called ~ that shows up on my desktop, and i am trying to get rid of it and to keep it off my computer. I tried deleting it, but after a day or 2, it pops right back up. I also tried moving it, but it pops up on the desktop again. The thing is, it has no information about it and it cannot be opened, all i know is that it goes by the name ~ and that it is 176 kbs. I used Ad-aware, but it doesn't classify it as adware or spyware. I have no idea whats its purpose is, or what it is or does.

Answer
Did you get all the latest updates to AdAware? You might also consider trying to use Spybot. Another thing is to do a virus scan.

Check all the processes that are running and see if there is anything there you don't want.

Hope this helps,
Scott<>
