Experience I have been using some form of the internet since 1992. I'll try my best to answer the question or lead you somewhere that might be able to answer it.
Question i usually access my hotmail account through my favourites. either using ninemsm or msmhotmail. over the last few days neither gives me access!
hotmail quickly opens a blank page with 'done' appearing in the taskbar.
the ninemsm page seems to get stuck trying to get the job done and after several minutes still never gets the job finished!
help if you can please!

Answer Try to clear your internet cache (On IE - go to tools - Internet options). Under the General tab, hit delete files. (It is OK to delete the offline content - I doubt you have anything stored.)
Make sure you run a scandisk / defrag as well maybe every week
