Question
1 what is ethernet.I am told my house is wired with etthernet which reaches up to the wall plates. how can this be connected to internet ? in other rooms

2.Ican these ethernet jacks be used for using telephones /
thank you.

Answer
Ethernet is a standard protocol for networking computer devices. I suspect that what is really the case is your house is wired with CAT 5 or 6 cabling. Such cabling can carry both data and phone signals. Your home probably has a wiring closet somnewhere with a "patch" panel that connects each wall plate. This patch panel can be wired to phone service, computers or even video.

Why don't you talk to the builder or wiring contractor who did the house.

For these jacks to allow an Internet connection, a router has to be patched in that connects with a broadband modem.
