Answer
Diana-

My first suggestion is to get away from Windows ME.  It is a disaster waiting to happen that's already happened!  If you can afford to, upgrade to Windows XP, it comes with great security software.  Also, I highly recommend the following programs (I use all of these on my own system):

-Google Search Bar
-Ad-Aware SE Personal

The Google Bar will block most pop up ads.  Ad-Aware is a free program that will hunt down spyware and get it off your system.  Both are great programs that I use constantly.
