Question
on the weekends I am on and off the computer a lot---should I turn off each time---just disconnect from web each time(dial up)--do standby---?--any help---THANKS

Answer
Hi, Bill!  You don't say if it's a laptop using battery or a desktop.  I'll assume the latter desktop and that it's a newer generation.  I had dialup until a few months ago and daily I would turn the system on in the morning and connect to the ISP and didn't turn it off until late at night.  So, if you have unlimited connect time you can do the same.  With newer monitors doing standby is optional re fear of screen burn-in.  If you ever experience local power fluctuations or know of upcoming electrical storms, then get the system shut down right away and just as important unplug the phone line from the modem.  I learned the hard way and had mine fried by a phone line surge.  Use the search engine Google and type in words like:

Yes, that is a tilde in front.  If you need more assistance, give me a shout.  Regards, Pat aka Patrick
