Question
i know you didnt list runescape as one of your game expertise but i was wondering if you could help me.

i have a laptop and i go to my nans house everyday from my house as my dad works most days at home i have a wireless network, with a router connected to another pc with a modem i use aol to connect to the internet and runescape works fine as ive tried multiple times but i use a client for runescape mostly as i know runescape works however when i go to my nan's house my runescape client doesn't work and runescape doesn't load on aol.. it gets to the red loading bar and goes to connect to the update server and i get this...

Error_game_js5connect - Unable to connect to update server.
Runescape was unable to connect to the update server. This is most likely caused by a firewall blocking the connection. To resolve this:

If you have firewall or security software installed please ensure RuneScape/Java is allowed to open outgoing network connections on ports 43594.

Note Windows XP Service Pack 2 has built in firewall software. If when loading RuneScape this asks if you want to allow the connection, you need to say 'yes'.

If that doesn't help then an external firewall may be causing the problem. Please ask your network adminstrator/ISP to open port 43594 for TCP traffic.

If problems persist then please refer to our technical FAQ which can be found in the FAQ section of our website.

now my nans house doesnt have wireless but it  does have a bt voyager 105 usb adsl modem.
please if you can help,
you will save many hours of boredom if you can...
thanks

(p.s atm i have a broken arm so i cant go out)

Answer
Hi James,

Firstly, sorry to hear about your arm. I hope you feel better.

Like the error message says, your problem is probably being caused by a firewall. This is a kind of software (or hardware) that protects your computer/network from attacks by hackers. Sometimes, the firewall can work too well and block out things that aren't bad.

Are you using your Nan's computer when you go to her house? If so, ask her if she has security software in her PC. If she does, you can get her to try and put RuneScape's address on the list of 'okay' connections.

Don't try and mess with the security software yourself. If you do something wrong, you could cut off ALL internet traffic, or leave your Nan's computer open to attacks.

Let me know if this doesn't help!
