Internet Media - minimum internet streaming video speed

Expert: Dave Mitch - 10/19/2008

Question
What is the minimum speed needed for smooth video streaming from the internet? I am trying to choose between several plans to upgrade to broadband. My choices are 705K, 1.5M, 3.5M downloads. But the cost between the top end and bottom end are as much as $30/month.

Answer
Assuming that the figures you have mentioned are max download limits per month, they are not really indicative of the badwidth being provided.

To decide, first go by how much you intend downloading - is it  fixed / varying.

The other factor - which should really be the deciding factor - what are the bandwidths being provided by the ISP ?

The budget could also be one of the major decision-making factors.
