Internet Media - unauthorized access to my computer

Expert: Emmett Smith - 5/11/2008

Question
Screen had displayed a box that said someone else was using my computer and if I turned it off they would lose all of their current information. I closed tabs and when I got to my desktop all of my files were had been rearranged. I am using a wireless connection to my laptop.  Is there anyway to find out who was looking at my files and how can I prevent in the future. I have a Norton security system operating, but they did not prevent?  Am I paranoid or is this a common occurrence?  I have current project info using on desktop for quick access and then I either transfer to my docs or delete.  Thank You

Answer
Click on Start, My Computer, System, Remote, and make sure that the boxes for Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance are not checked. Norton will not prevent this.

On a wireless connection, people can see your computer name under online users. A computer guy would be able to see who was getting into your system. If its your wireless router make sure that the neywork is not public.
