Question google adwords confuses the begeebers out of me...so i really need someone to walk me through that...but that aside, i get the impression that it only matters that i have all the words that i want to be searched on, on my web pages...i have no idea how to do that (put a big paragraph at the bottom with some kind of font that doesn't show up or something?) with my website...

so, my major problem is: if i buy adwords, and i search in the places that i think i should show up, i don't show up there. and then, i just think that since adwords has me, it will milk me, how would i ever know how many hits really came through????
so as you can see, i'm confused and frustrated...so do i need to find a professional to help me with this? or what?

Answer In Google's world, Adwords are the words you choose when you buy Google ads to get your ads to show up when people do a search. These go in your ads.
Keywords are the words that you choose to get your website to show up when people do a search. These hopefully are strung through out your website and go into your meta file. When Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alexa, Ask Jeeves, and most other big search engine robots crawl your website, the look at your meta file, headings, and text. They don't look at banners.
If you're going to try to make money with Google Adsense, Keywords play a big part of attracting people to your pages to click on the Adsense ads.
How much you are willing to spend per click mostly determines whether your ad shows up during a search. Unless you have gazillions to spend, you need to do what they call niche marketing. If you are selling flowers, for instance, to get on the first page with the Adword, "Flowers", you probably need to spend about $5 per click. "Roses probably costs about the same amount. You might be able to get on the first page for $.05 per click if your adword is "yellow tulips".
Google charges you per click so you will know how many clicks occurred by what they charge you and you can check your account online every minute if you want. You can set a budget per day and per month. If you don't set a budget, Google will keep running your ad and billing your credit card as long as the clicks come in. You can imagine if you got 20,000 clicks per day that may or may not translate into sales. If you're getting clicks and no sales, your adwords are attracting the wrong people and you need to change them.
Books have been written on how to do this and there is software to use. Be prepared to blow some cash while you are learning. You can stop your ads at any time and stop the charges so keep a close eye on things.
