Subject: System intrusion
Question It appears a program has been placed on my system that is in effect making my computer spam others. All I see is my e-mail scanner scanning the outgoing messages. It varies by volume but I have seen the taskbar full of icons. Spam blockers prevent spam from being received, how do I identify the program and stop my system from spamming others?
Answer You need to first sanitize your system.
There are many ways of doing this. Your existing "e-mail scanner" might not have been updated with the latest updates. So it is recommended that you download a fresh (clean) anti-spyware + anti-virus and run a full system scan after having installed the software.
Two recommended tools are
for Anti-Spyware: SpyBot-SD available at
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
for Anti-Virus:ZASS box shot
ZoneAlarmŽ Internet Security Suite available at
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/application?namespace=zls_order&origin=catalog_ma...
There are numerous other products some of which are equally good as the ones suggested above.
If you don't want to try any new software, you could try an "online scan" available at many of the leading anti-virus software vendors such as McAfee (Freescan) at http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp
I could also help you out by doing the diagnostics of your infected system - online. This would entail a small fee. Do let me know if you need any more assistance.
