Question
Hi Dave, I would like to visit websites anonymously. For example, if I visited somebody's webpage, or social networking site, I know that I would leave some kind of 'digital footprint'.  I'm assuming that, if the owner of the webpage had the desire and knowledge, I personally could be identified by the 'digital footprint' left when I visited.
Given the above, what can I do such that I could not be identified when visiting websites?  I have recently learned about 'proxys' which will supposedly conceal my IP address.  Is this all that is necessary? Is IP address the only 'digital footprint' left after visiting a website?  Thanks.

Answer
You can use a software like "tor" (download link here -> www.torproject.org/download.html.en )to conceal your IP address from a website.

You would also need to give fictitious details (like email id etc.) if you don not want to reveal your true identity.

Online proxy servers can also mask your IP. But their efficacy is questionable at times.
