About Suyash Expertise I can help with interspecies conflict questions regarding carnivorous vertebrate animals. Also I can answer questions regarding ecological role of various mammals. You can also ask me questions about tigers and their current situation in tiger reserves. No questions about domestic animals please. I am only an expert with wild mammals.
Experience I'm currently studing animal biology. I've been researching 'Interspecies conflict' from a long time. I've read alot of books on wildlife, also I've been visiting a native zoological park from quite a few years to study the behaviour of animals there.
b) How many tigers are living currently in Kuno Sanctuary ? Would it be a threat to Lions and Vice Versa ?
Cheers,
Tiger Fan
Answer Hello there again Tiger Fan,
1) Well to my knowledge, there in still not much of a progress in the project, its all talk no action. However still some say that the project would undergo soon.
I'm not 100% sure if they can survive without the process of rewilding, however there is possibility htat they can, I remember a few years ago, a zoo tigress was released in kanha and she survived, so we can be hopefull.
2) There a just 5-8 tigers left in kuno and According to Dr. Ravi Chellam, just 8 tigers don't pose a threat at all. However its also important to note that an asiatic lion is no match for a bengal tigers, the tiger being 50 kg heavier and this is a cause of concern for the project. Till now, no expert have studied the historical ecological interrelationship of lions and tigers. Historically both lions and tigers were found in kuno there may have been a peacefull coexistence between them.
