Experience I'm currently studing animal biology. I've been researching 'Interspecies conflict' from a long time. I've read alot of books on wildlife, also I've been visiting a native zoological park from quite a few years to study the behaviour of animals there.
I heard you saying that tigers are built to take down prey weighing 4-5 times there own weight, can you please explain me about this?
2) what is the largest animal a leopard can kill?
thanks
Answer Hello there Sam,
Well its not me the one who is saying that tigers can kill animals weighing 4-5 times their own weight, but its a scientifically substantiated fact, I remember Dr. Ullas Karanth saying in an interview,
''Q. You've spent decades observing tiger behavior. What do you find most interesting about them?
A. The way nature has designed them. They are built to take down prey four to five times their own size. If I went into the forest, it would be hard for me to get within striking range of a deer. This huge cat does it effortlessly. It can grab onto something that weighs about a ton, wrestles it down and kill it, all very safely and quietly.''
The long and strong hindlegs of tigers give it amazing leaping power, its fairly flexible back bone makes it body agile, its 2.5 to 3 inch long canines and 4 inch long claws. Its dinner plate big paws and strong and thick forelimbs, all these things weapons make the tiger a superb predator of large ungulates. Add to that sharp eyesight and hearing ability, and large size. The tiger shares these qualities with most other big cats, but only 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 attacks are successful depending on the particular place.
2) A leopard reportedly killed a male eland, weighing 900 kilograms. Leopard are built to take down prey weighing 2-3 times their own size, however they rarely kill any animal weighing above 95 kilograms.
