Question
I have an idea for a software as a standalone/ add-on for a system security / privacy type of software
I would like to ask as I am unable to program myself and am unsure if it could be patented as software let alone the cost ,
What would be the best way to contact a developer /company to ask if they would like to purchase the Idea ether outright of for a royalty without them taking the idea and running ?
or any one you feel may be able to help ?

John,
Thanks for the question. There are many moving parts to bringing a product to market, especially software. Software is a bit tough to patent at this point, you would have to consult an IP attorney that may find some elements of your idea for security software that can be protected. As far as a development company purchasing your idea.....it is not too conceivable as there is no proof of concept, no product to purchase and no IP to purchase. If you had some IP that covered a lot of claims and may have a function in the development of existing or new software, you may be able to sell it at that point.
