AboutMarty McCrea Expertise I can answer questions about honing your idea and helping it to become more real in your mind, your research, and within your speaking. My expertise is in answering the large questions that you have into more manageable pieces. I can also assist you in finding the source of the data that you can use to prove and pitch your idea if that's the path that you're on.
Experience In my opinion, the current way to invent is inherently flawed. Regular people like us normally get “eaten up” by the proverbial sharks in the water. (corporations, invention submission companies, lawyers, etc)
We can not stand for this any longer; you feel this too, yes?
Experience:
I have helped people think and re-think their ideas for years. As a byproduct of talking with hundreds of inventors, there is a new and very revolutionary way to invent that will be available to the world in 2009.
Nobel Prize Winner Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi once said that "Discovery consists of seeing what everybody else has seen, and thinking what no one has thought." I agree with this truth with all of my heart.
Now let's talk about your question, your passion, and how I can help your idea gain momentum if it is ready.
I have my Grandmother's recipe for a relish that I want to make and market. I've been on the FDA's website, but it is hard to pinpoint the exact information I need, and I hope you can help. Can you point me in the right direction for this process? I would like to make the relish at a local restaurant (rent space), then jar and label it for sale to the public. It's a really great recipe, and I have the support of a local farm stand behind me to provide the freshest ingredients. I'm hoping to get this going in a couple of months. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
Answer Hi Katherine;
Yeah, the FDA site is not very user friendly to say the least. The methods of how you want to sell the relish will determine your path through the FDA. This is not a very fancy answer, but it is the best solution to your question. Call the FDA at 1-888-723-3366 and talk to a real live human being. You can also email them and ask them for your state and your product, what they would suggest you do to get FDA approval. You can email them at industry@fda.gov
Whew!! Now that's done we can get to the fun stuff. :) QUESTIONS!!! Questions lead to research which leads to answers which leads to more questions which leads to refinements which leads you to the path of your own success. Make your Grandmother proud! Let's say you have to get FDA approval and you get it...now what? What are your plans for mass production? Here or overseas? What packaging did you have in mind? A jar? A squeeze bottle? Where do you buy those in bulk? Will the manufacturer take care of that? Will you? How 'bout the artwork on the label? What are you going to call your relish? Who are your competitors? What makes you and your Grandmother's recipe unique? Are you going to set up a company to distribute? What about marketing? Website? Word of mouth? Print ads? Commercials? These are only some of the questions that you should address.
It's a good thing and a bad thing all at once because your work is just beginning Katherine! :) It's hard, but it's fun. So do some thinking about these questions, think of your own questions and seek the answers. Tackle them one at a time, don’t get discouraged because there is a lot of work or there are a lot of unknowns. Do the work to make those unknowns...knowns one at a time. Then check into the FDA stuff and get back to me if you need any assistance.
