About Marty McCrea
Expertise
I can answer questions about honing your idea and helping it to become more real in your mind, your research, and within your speaking. My expertise is in answering the large questions that you have into more manageable pieces. I can also assist you in finding the source of the data that you can use to prove and pitch your idea if that's the path that you're on.

Experience
In my opinion, the current way to invent is inherently flawed. Regular people like us normally get “eaten up” by the proverbial sharks in the water. (corporations, invention submission companies, lawyers, etc)

We can not stand for this any longer; you feel this too, yes?

Experience:

I have helped people think and re-think their ideas for years. As a byproduct of talking with hundreds of inventors, there is a new and very revolutionary way to invent that will be available to the world in 2009. Nobel Prize Winner Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi once said that "Discovery consists of seeing what everybody else has seen, and thinking what no one has thought." I agree with this truth with all of my heart. Now let's talk about your question, your passion, and how I can help your idea gain momentum if it is ready.

Inventing New Products/Inventions - Sons Game Invention

Expert: Marty McCrea - 6/18/2009

Question
My 9 year old son, he was 8 at the time, invented a math board game. We love to play it with him and have played it with others,including adults in their 70's, who enjoyed the game so much that they wished to play it again. I would like to know how we may get this game to market for others to enjoy and and also make a profit for my son by doing so.

Answer
Hi Taylor;

There are a few ways that you can go about this.  From the sound of your question, you have a prototype already created, so the first step is out of the way.  What I would recommend is get all your ducks in a row before you venture out and contact toy companies or agents with the idea.  Here are some of your ducks:

Unique Market Placement:  Why would the world love this game? To borrow something from the math world, create a "proof" of why the game would be successful.  Talk to the adults who loved the game, get testimonials as to why they loved it.  Talk to kids and find out why they love the game. Think about your age demographic.  Is it 2 to infinity?  Find a proxy example of a game that has similar demographics and find marketing data for that game.  Draw conclusions if you only capture .5% of the market.  You will be astonished at the number that comes out of that calculation.

Digital Proof: Videotape the game being played.  Make sure and highlight the fun people have.  Laughing, learning and families spending time together are a winning combination for any game.

Research:

Try this link.  Remember that all the information that you find in the world is not true.  Some of it is.  Be conscious enough to discern the difference.

IP Protection:
Patent the game if you are able.  This is important.  Please note: this is a process, do not expect this patent process to be painless and short.  Don't expect it to be excruciating and long either.  But be ready for both.

Any other 'ducks' you can think of, get them ready as well.  After you have all your data, combine it into one presentation and write me back.  I have some resources that you will find useful, namely the one guy at Hasbro that decides what games Hasbro carries in the upcoming product lines.  His name is Mike Hirtle.  When the time is right I'll reach out to him for you.

Good luck and Happy Inventing!  I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

Highest Regards;

Marty McCrea
