Inventing New Products/Inventions - electric sparks

Question
"Dear sir,
I had posted the following set of questions,on this site earlier and i got a reply from an autoresponder which said "this is outside my expertise"..i do hope u will answer my questions asap
1.Can instantaneous electric sparks be generated at fixed intervals of time, without using a spark plug?(i would be looking for a more econoomic device)?is it possible to use an ac circuit and generate sparks only during one half cycle...(i kno this is sort of bizzar, but i was thinking of constructing something similar to a half wave rectifier which works only during one half cycle)

2.Can instantaneious electric sparks generated at short time intervals ionize 100ml of CO?Approximately how much time would be required for the same?

3.What voltage would be required to ionize 100ml of CO(using electric sparks)

Answer
This is out of my area of expertise as well but I'll give it a shot.
1. From the little I have read about automotive ignition and flash circuits for photography, its a fairly soimple circuit, the main component being a large capacitor to increase the voltage. The spark plug is just a way to get the arc out to where you want it in the cylinder. The timing can be set up with a '555 timer which could manage the timing of the above mentioned circuitry.

2. Ionize 100 Mls of Co: For this one, you'll have to do some experimenting and research to get a rough idea of the size and go from there. The power and voltage of your generator can be adjusted to suit the real world once you have somethign working.

3. Outside my expertise.
