Inventing New Products/Inventions - Invention of New Outdoor and Indoor Games

Expert: Justin Schwab - 9/10/2009

Question
Dear Justin

My Hobbies are

1. Cricket. I love to watch this Outdoor Game.
In my school days, i was playing this fantastic game
  invented by Englishmen.

2. Chess. I love to play this Indoor Game.

This is not a query from my side but some inputs from my side regarding inventions of New Outdoor and Indoor Games.

Now when i watch the Popular games such as Hockey, Cricket, Football, Boxing, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Basketball etc the first thing which comes to our mind are the Dimensions of the Stadium / Ground Build. As we see most of them are having this basic shapes. viz Circular, Oval, Square and Rectangle.

Now going by our Geometry Basics which we learnt in our school, we have so many other shapes viz

Triangle - Equilateral, Isoceles, Right angled
Ellipse
Parabola
Hyperbola
Rhombus
Kite
Cylinder
Cone
Trapezoid
Pentagon
Hexagon
Septagon
Octagon
Parallelogram
Pyramid
Sphere

So my point is when we invent new outdoor and indoor games we can design the stadium - (Grass/Clay) / ground -(Grass/Clay) / board (indoor) shapes and then apply the laws / rules to the game constructed with number of players in each side, time period etc

Please give your inputs regarding this inputs from my side.

Thanks & Regards,

Answer
Prashant,

This question is very interesting and outside of my professional realm.  I do have a personal opinion as I am an avid sports fan....In order for you to create/invent a new sport, it is going to take a lot of support, not only from the potential players/users, but from a financial point of view.  If you look at all of the great sports we play today....Baseball, Football, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, etc....you see that these sports date back 75+ years.  For you to create sport and commercialize it to the point that you have to build a new court/stadium or anything of that magnitude....you have to prove to the potential users that they can re-train there skills and desire for your sport and that your invented sport is worthy of their advertising dollars.

I wish you luck,

Justin
