QUESTION: sprinkler system intermittent some day it run thru zones fine and then on some days zone one works but doesn't run thru other programed zones. I've been able to run manually up until today I tried manual this morning and no zones would work a few hours later I could start manually but would only run few seconds and shut off but controller should it still running. a few hours later I was able to run manually and worked fine
ANSWER: Hey Bob, not knowing what brand controller you have, I can only speculate. Some controllers are very sensitive to direct sunlight, in that they have a tendency to get very hot in the sun, and do not work well. If the controller is getting direct sunlight in the morning, but not in the afternoon, it could be a factor in why it works in the afternoon. If the sun is a factor, then you could try to shade it from the sun. If you could let me know what brand and model of controller you have, that would be helpful. Good luck and have a great day.

QUESTION: Thanks Jim, I have a Irritrol RD 600 controller. Actually the sun never hits the box until late afternoon. Could this possibly be a bad board. This had happened once before and then it ran with no problem for the last 30 days until today
Hey Bob, you are correct, the solder joints in back of the board have a tendency to separate from the contacts. There are 4 screws that hold the circuit board to the back of the case. Mark all the wires before you take them off of the board, so you can correctly re- install them, and also make sure you turn the power to the unit off before you attempt this. Once you get the board out, you can either take it to a supplier and buy a new board, or some suppliers will re- solder the board for you (Sprinkler World of Arizona). You could also solder the contacts back together yourself. Good luck and have a great day.
