Question
asssalamwaliakum.....i wud like to knw wht exactly is the meaning of purdah of voice...is it that i cannot spk to namehrams at all or is it just that i should mind what i speak and dont get intimate to them....can i speak to my non mehram relatives .....or can i speak to na mehrams if i make sure i speak properly to them..

Dear Sister,
May Allah reward you for the taqwa...ameen.
Anything which may lead to sexual attraction between non-mahrams is prohibited in Islam. Therefore when you talk to them, talk with a voice that does not excite urges. Any excessive talk will increase the possibility. Thus one is ordered to abstain.
[Quran 31:6] “And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah…”
