Assalamalalaikum

Dear Billi,

Allah has called us muslims and chosen Islam as our religion. Who has given us authority to re-name ourselves as sunni/shia etc etc.

[Quran 2:208] O ye who believe! Enter into Islam whole-heartedly; and follow not the footsteps of the evil one,for he is to you an avowed enemy.

[Quran 3:19] The Religion before Allah (God) is Islam (submission to His Will): Nor did the People of the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other, after knowledge had come to them. But if any deny the Signs of Allah (God), Allah (God) is swift in calling to account.

[Quran 3:64] Say: "O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah (God); that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah (God)." If then they turn back, s ay ye: "Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah (God)'s Will).

[Quran 3:103] “And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves;”

[Quran 6:159] “As for those who divide Their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.”

[Quran 4:59] "O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination.
