Islam/Making up neglected prayers?

Al-Salam Alaikum w Rahmat Allah w Barakateh istadh Ahmer,

I wanted to ask for your knowledge in regards to neglected prayers.

Estaghferallah, I am not proud to admit that I have missed 3 days worth of prayer for no legitimate reason.

I remember asking a friend once about this. She said I should read a specific duaa when I am offering that neglected prayer, and I can pray it after I finish one. So for example: after I pray Salat Al-Asser I perform after it the Salat al-Asser for that missed day.

Still, I want to make sure that what I am doing is correct and not wrong. I don't want to make anymore bad choices or make mistakes.

So I searched on the internet for what reliable sources I could find, both in English and in Arabic, but the information is always very conflicting.

Some say that this can be done, as long as it is genuine and you ask for repentance. Others say that without a legitimate reason then these prayers are null and void, and can never be made up through any means (with some saying even nafil prayers won't work).

I would like to do the right thing, and I trust your judgement as friends of mine have recommended you.

I hope you can shed some light on this topic and Inshallah enlighten others who stumble upon this question.

Shokran jazeelan w Inshallah Allah yekteb dhi fee meezan hassanatik.

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim (In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful)

Dear Sister,

Never panic....Allah is mercifull.

Quran [39:53] Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

AbuDawud Book 002, Hadith Number 0863.
Narated By AbuHurayrah

The first thing about which the people will be called to account out of their actions on the Day of Judgment is prayer. Our Lord, the Exalted, will say to the angels - though He knows better: Look into the prayer of My servant and see whether he has offered it perfectly or imperfectly. If it is perfect, that will be recorded perfect.

If it is defective, He will say: See there are some optional prayers offered by My servant. If there are optional prayer to his credit, He will say: Compensate the obligatory prayer by the optional prayer for My servant. Then all the actions will be considered similarly.

Bukhari Volumn 001, Book 010, Hadith Number 571.
Narated By Anas : The Prophet said, "If anyone forgets a prayer he should pray that prayer when he remembers it. There is no expiation except to pray the same." Then he recited: "Establish prayer for My (i.e. Allah's) remembrance." (20.14).

Therefore you may pray the missed as soon as you can !
