Islam/bowing in front of elders

As Salaam Alaikum!

I admire your determination to study and understand Islam before reverting.

Islam do respect cultural traditions so far it's not shirk.

Wishing Namaste to elders with folded arms is an Indian tradition & is not considered as shirk, however bowing & touching elders feet even though your intentions may not

be shirk, but it indeed looks shirk for fellow Muslims as

well as the person whose feet is touched will definitely

feels at some point of time that he is above the person who is touching his feet.

Let's take your argument in a simpler way, don't you think Islam or Christianity or Judaism doesn't respect elders as

they don't bow and touch the feet of their elders.

Respecting elders is not by touching feet but the way you treat and talk to them and the mannerism towards them counts.

So, please dissuade yourself by bowing & touching the feet of

the elders since it tantamount to shirk.

Coming to fasting in Islam, the Almighty Allah commanded us to

fast in the month of Ramadan to know the hunger of poor and

to detoxify our bodies and increase our will power towards

temptations. Apart from Ramadan, fasting is commanded only as

penance towards erring or committing a sin and for soldiers

who may have to kill in the wars.

So, there's no other situation we are asked in the Koran to fast, hence fasting the way you do or others who does fast

for many reasons have no significance as far religion is concerned.

May the Almighty Allah have mercy on us to forgive our sins and

guide us all to the true path of Islam as per the Koran for rest of our life

and the way of talking to them
