Islam - why so many insult on each other by imams

Expert: Muhammad Omer Iqbal - 3/4/2005

Question
Assalamualaikum, I would like to know, why imams like to insult each other(e.g salifis n sunnis and than sheia n salifis, so on)I find the sheia reject sahabas, but,I met a sheia in S'pore from Iran,he said "anyone who disrespact any sahaba is kafir n the Quran is the same, no different." Infact,he said Syedina Ali(rah) names his sons by  another wife after sahabas, like Omar and so on,so,how can we hate the sahabas.Regarding, salafis, everthing is bid'ah(like saying 'Allah' using tasby(bits 4 counting)what I like 2 know, there salafis(wahabi) in Malaysia who sell ayats(framed),is this not bid'ah? Ayats are meant to be read n understand n followed .As far remembering RasulAllah s.a.w(mawlud)by doing it to remember and to bring our brothers together who is weak,so,that they can learn more about Rasul s.a.w,what he has done for us,and if done withnot doing Haram things,I think is alright,I know remembering Rasul s.a.w is everyday  by salawat, but, every Edil whether it is Fitri or Adhi,we read the same text(fasting n sacrifice),years after years because to remind us what it means. So,why not mawlud? If Rasul s.a.w did not do it,does it mean we can't?Then, driving cars, using forks n spoon, coats, eating style(sitting on chairs)using glasses 2 see, flying,if this are bid'ah.than information by net is bid'ah because da'wah is by persenting yourself in person.A person belief or disbelief is by action, words, niat.Only Allah knows one who is a believe or not.we obey to him n hope we are the one he bless n have mercy. We follow the Quran n Hadiths.RasulAllah is a beautiful person in all,pls do not insult him,in some hadiths it insult his saying n wisdom.(I,feel,I can be wrong,Allah forgive me)if, Wahabis are rights n the others mazhab are wrong, where do they gets
thier knowledge from? Is it not from Imams before Imam wahabi(Imam Hanafi,Maliki,Hambli,Shafie, etc)
All goodness comes from ALLLAH,only evil thoughts comes from human from the whisper of the satan.Pls correct me for my wrongness,Amin,WASSALAM.

Answer
Assalamu Alaykum,

Dear Mohammad, I do agree with your thoughts and I do not have any idea why Imams insult each other. In some cases, I think they do not really insult, rather only point objections, which is okay. However, people see it as insulting or they think that they are supposed to insult whom the Imam has posed an objection against.

On the other hand, there are cases where people actually insult, which, in my opinion, is not correct at all. For instance, Quran says,

"Call to the Path of your Lord with wisdom and fine admonition. Argue with them in the best manner. Your Lord is well aware of those who have gone astray from His Path and He is well aware of those who are guided." (16:125)

Therefore I think everyone should think great of others and it is possible that someone else whom you are discussing an issue with may be right! This was the approach of the early Muslims, however, we do not follow those examples.

All these issues have existed for a long time and will continue to exist. It is us who have to change ourselves and find the right solution for us. For that, we may have to read and understand the Quran and live according to that. If we understand the Quran, we can solve all the issues in it's light. It is for this reason that the first generations of Muslims used to spend a lot of time understanding the Quran and live their lives accordingly.

I hope this discussion was useful for you.

I have an article on understanding the Quran on my website http://www.omeriqbal.com/understanding.html - may be you will find it useful.

My best regards to you and those around you.
