Islam - sects

Question
Hi!

I would like to know what are the major branches/sects/denominations of Islam, how they were formed, and what are some of the prominent distinctives of each one. Thank you.

Regards,
Kenneth

Answer
The truth is sects are formed when people miss the spirit of religion.
Sunnis are the mainstream and Shiites, Ahmadis, etc.
When The Quran is seen as a rational scientific book, Companions are reviled, whimsical interpretations are prefered than classical then deviation begins.
