Question
I am looking for a website where I can find what a certain country depends on (economically or other) so that if it was taken away from them would justify an attack. For example, if for some reason, some how the US takes away the ability for Russia to sell nuclear energy to Iran, would this effect Russia enough to justify an attack. I am not asking about this specific scenario, but where can I got to find out what causes specific countries to "crack"

Answer
Hi Jon,

I think I understand your question. Your question could actually be applied to any region in the world but since my expertise is the Middle East, I'll concentrate there.

There are 2 parts of society that are susceptible to "cracking" - the government and the people. In democracies such as in Israel and Turkey, the only 2 in the region, it could happen but to a much lesser extent. And even in these cases, the situations are far from ideal. As for the rest of the region, which isn't democratic, the governments don't "crack" per se. They could, and have, attacked other countries simply on a whim. The Iran-Iraq War in the 80s and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in the 90s, happened in the first place because the government of one side felt like teaching the other side a lesson.

Unemployment and poverty, though, are other major problems especially in the Arab world and Iran, that could, conceivably, turn these countries and their neighbors into infernos. It is estimated by some to be around 13% average. I recommend these web pages:

Another dangerous problem is lack of human rights. That's how the shah of Iran was overthrown. There are just so many pages on the internet on this subject, I simply don't know which ones to recommend. I suggest that you google "human rights in the Middle East" and you'll have a plethora of websites to choose from.
