Question
can peace be restored in the middle east?
if so,how?and why has it taken so long?
if not why?

Answer
Nadia, the first answer would have to be to which conflict are you referring.  There are many many conflict in the Middle East.  Your questions are very good but one that has no succinct answer.

Yes, I believe that the Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab conflict can and will be solved, eventually.  Yes, I believe that Iraq will eventually see some peace and democracy.  However, neither will be peaceful for many years, if not decades.  The problem lies a changing equation of intertwined geographical, religious, ethnic, and political interests.

It is important to note that the Middle East is comparatively very stable, at least politically.  The region boasts some of the longest governing regimes.  One problem is that solving some of the conflicts would probably endanger these regimes' lifespan.

Sorry I can not be more specific.  Hope this helps.
