Actually we make this all the time.  We call it Sumbella or Ciambella.  Me Nona ,adw this and my mother for 60 years.



4cup flour

1 1/4cup sugar

4t baking powder

1t baking soda

1/4t salt

1stick melted butter

4 eggs

1bottle McComicks anise extract

2T oil





Mix. Should be sticky but not wet. Form into ring.

Add candies on top if wanted.(use 1egg yoke for glaze first. Put remaining white in mix)

Back at 3:50 for 23 min.

I am have been cooking family recipes from scratch since I was a little girl. My Grandparents came over on the "boat" from Italy almost 150 years ago. I cooked side by side with my grandmother, 8 aunts and uncles as well as my mother.
