Italian Language - God mother

Expert: Maria - 11/1/2009

Question
Can you tell me the Italian word for Godmother?

Answer
Hello,

The Italian word for “godmother”, as a woman who sponsors a person at baptism, is “madrina”.

In Italian we can add “di battesimo” and then say “madrina di battesimo”, but we usually  say  simply ”madrina” which is a feminine noun (see below).

Have a nice day,
Maria
