Question
Dear Maria,

Can you please tell me the correct way to say the name of the American State - “West Virginia” in Italian.

Should I say:   “la Virginia Occidentale”, or should I say: “la Virginia dell’Ovest”  ?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Rich

Answer
Dear Rich,

in Italian we would prefer to say for example “Abito nell’Ovest della Virginia” instead of “Abito nella Virginia Occidentale” or “Abito nella Virginia dell’Ovest”.
Anyway, we could say simply  “Abito in Virginia”, without specifying.

All the best,

Maria
