ANSWER: Dear Rich,

your translations are correct, but there are some mistakes in some Italian sentences, where you should have written as follows:

-"Venite a pranzo a casa nostra?" instead of "Venite alla nostra casa a pranzo?";
-"Venite a pranzo a casa?" instead of "Venite alla casa a pranzo?";
-"Devo andare allo studio dentistico alle 3" instead of "Devo andare al studio dentistico alle 3";
-"La bambina va a casa dell'amica" instead of "La bambina va a casa della amica";
-"Il bambino va a casa di sua nonna" instead of "Il bambino va a casa di s ua nonna" where there is a typo.

All the best,

Maria

QUESTION: Dear Maria,

Thank you very much for your help with this question.  As always, I very much appreciate all of your help.

Would you please explain to me why “a pranzo” must be placed before “a casa” in the following sentences:

Venite a pranzo a casa nostra?
Will you come to our house for lunch?

Venite a pranzo a casa?
Will you come to our house for lunch?

I would very, very much appreciate this help.  Thank you so much!!

Sincerely,

Rich

Answer
Dear Rich,

in “ Venite a pranzo a casa nostra?” and  “Venite a pranzo a casa?” the indirect object “a pranzo” must be placed before “a casa” because it depends on the verb “venire” in the expression “venire a pranzo” which is similar to “venire a cena” or “venire a colazione” as in e.g. “”Verrà a cena da noi alle 7” and “Vieni a colazione da me domani?”.

Best regards,

Maria
