Italy - Itinery for Rome/Pisa/Florence/Milan in 3 days

Question
hi there,

I’m planning to visit Rome, Pisa, Florence and Milan in 3 days this coming December. I’m traveling from Zurich by Eurail. After Italy I am heading to Paris also by train.

My plan is to visit Rome from Zurich and overnight in Rome on the first day, then heading to Pisa on the second day and overnight at Florence.  Visit Milan on the third day and take a night train to Paris. I would appreciate if you could advice on my plan or recommend other itineraries to minimize our travel time on the train.

If I am traveling using eurail global passes, do I have to buy another ticket to travel by train in Italy?

Really appreciate your help.

thanks & regards,
~lynn~

Answer
Hello Lynn,
Eurail is ok, you don't really have to buy extra tickets.
Probably they are going to charge you some small bucks only for the reservation if you take the AV train (the high speed trains).
The itinerary you chose is perfect although I think that it is going to be really too much for only 3 days.  Maybe you could skip Milan and spend one extra night in Florence (consider that Pisa is worth just 2 hours visit, there isn't much there beside the tower). But again I think your plan sounds great especially if you are in a good shape and you don't mind making some overnight ride.
Actually one little tip: make sure you book organized tours or private tours per time on line, so you on't have to waste time once you'll be there in seraching the tour guides and everything instead will be ready once you'll be arrived at the station.

Have fun,
Edoardo
